With the evolution of phones and tablets, watching the latest videos on the go has become increasingly popular and necessary to fight off that terrible thing called boredom. Whether you’re on the train home from a hard day’s work, or just want to spend your spare time watching the latest cat videos. These 5 Apps will help you spend some quality time browsing the internet in video form.
No.1 YouTube
AndroidIosYoutube
Features:
- Large variety of content across multiple genres
- Hugely accessible thanks to caption support and simplified navigation
- Easy to follow your favourite creators by subscribing
- Change quality and viewing speeds
- Easy to upload content directly from your phone
Let's start this list with the company that popularised video sharing. Youtube showed the world that TV wasn't the only way to engage an audience. With an unbelievable amount of content for people to consume, there is no doubt you'll find something to enjoy. From watching clips of your favourite TV shows, watching highlights of sporting events or even watching your favourite video games being completed in world records times. Youtube offers a huge variety of videos across 100s of genres.
Youtube has one of the easiest navigation methods for a mobile App. Not only can you use the search function to find exactly what it is you want, you can use the Home and Explore tabs to find something new. You'll find a lot of different content creators too, each with their own unique style and personality. This is what Youtube prides itself on, and is by far the most dominant force in regards to how many creators there are on the platform. Another positive is that a large percentage of videos have subtitles or captions available making things incredibly accessible.
If you are a content creator yourself, you can easily upload videos directly from your phone. Whether this is a long video, a live stream or if you are making use of the Youtube Shorts feature, it's as simple as tapping the Upload or Go Live button. Youtube also has a community tab for those of you who like engaging with people that share similar interests.
Youtube is without a doubt the most popular video platform on this list and is my personal favourite too. Youtube has become my go to platform to watch videos. I can highly recommend this App to anyone wanting a change from regular television. Youtube is the way to go.

No.2 Rumble
AndroidIosRumbo
Features:
- New App with constant updates
- Simple and easy to navigate
- Minimal censorship for creators
- Growing community and features
Rumble is one of the newer Apps on this list and while that may show on the surface with it's lack of specific features, it still offers a wide range of videos for you to watch.
One of the biggest things Rumble is proud of, is how they allow their content creators to upload whatever type of videos they like… within reason of course. Thanks to how new this App is, it's extremely easy to navigate too without being bombarded with other videos.
Rumble may not have the large library to compete with Youtube just yet but it's focus on recent News and short viral videos will help catapult it into a much more popular video platform than it currently is.
Creating a channel is simple to do, with video monetisation being immediately available. Creators can also upload and livestream directly from their phone, making it a very convenient choice.
There are also plenty of new features being added to help grow the App even further and make it even more appealing. Rumble is definitely worth your time to browse with it's constant growth being a great selling point for newer viewers.

No.3 Vimeo
AndroidIosVimeo
Features:
- Promotes a large variety of diverse content
- No ads to interrupt your experience
- Save videos to watch them offline
- Customisable video feed to suit you
- Helps you create videos with it’s own editing tools
Vimeo has been around for a long time and has seen multiple changes in it’s lifetime. The App however is currently a lesser version of Youtube in regards to it’s veiwing features. They have recently added the option to fast forward or rewind video but still lack a background play option or an audio only feature.
On the plus side Vimeo does offer a wide variety of videos, with a large focus on promoting much more diverse styles of content to help viewers broaden their knowledge. So I have to give them props for that. You can even save some videos to then watch them offline which is a great feature to have. You can also follow categories and creators to get updated on relevant videos that suit your tastes.
Vimeo also wants creators to feel welcome and offers their own video creation tools to help new creators make videos. This is a great way to gain new viewers and a large amount of videos to be made specifically for the App. Best of all there are no adverts to interrupt your videos.
Vimeo should definitely be on your radar to watch videos from now on, if it wasn’t already. I can easily recommend you give this App a try and I really like the way it promotes new creators to experiment on this platform.

No.4 Dailymotion
AndroidIosDailymotion
Features:
- Daily Pulse gives you updates on key news stories
- Follow specific creators and topics
- Save videos to watch them offline
- Create your own playlists
Dailymotion has been a website I have have frequently used from time to time. It’s a great way to check up on the most recent Sports and Entertainment news. It also has a bunch of videos made by verified creators, making for a much less saturated video platform. The video you want to watch is much more easily accessed thanks to this and from a more reliable source.
Having a feature which allows you to follow your favourite creators and topics is a good addition keeping any future content relevant to what you want to watch. ANother great feature is having the ability to save videos to your library so you can watch them offline. You can even put them in handy little playlists to separate them into different genres.
The Daily Pulse feature all gives you immediate access to the most recent news. Whether this is a team winning a championship, an actor getting linked to a new film or the current world news. It’s a great all in one feature which saves you searching endlessly for these videos.
Dailymotion is definitely tailored more towards News, Music and Sports but it handles this very well. While it does offer a few viral style videos, those looking for something more specific will get the most out of this App.

Showing trailers for these films as well as providing a brief synopsis helped me to choose what to watch on many nights. As of writing this I watched The Shawshank’s Redemption, it’s a classic.
IMDb also gives you plenty of ways to discover new movies. You can compare your favourite films by similar genres. View the popular favourites or even get personalised picks if you make an account.
